Pictures!!

A few crochet pictures and one more Halloween costume pic.

Photobucket
I crocheted this pumpkin for my nephew Jack, his birthday is just before Halloween so I thought it would be fitting. :D

Photobucket
Robbie the bat sleeping almost upside down on Halloween night.

Photobucket
The mittens!! They weren't really hard, but I did have to smash two patterns together to make them.

Photobucket
I did a nice single crochet trim around the wrist and continued the chain over to the other mitten so that Robbie won't lose them.

Photobucket
Here's the fleece lining that I put in, it's attached to the tip of the mitten and the tip of the thumb so it won't slouch down.

Over all I'm quite pleased with how they turned out. I'm actually thinking of starting an etsy store to sell them, they are cheap enough to make that I could get a bit of profit from them. :D

Hey there everyone! I am still alive, although I was sure I had died a couple of times this past week. Robbie gave me this lovely flu that included an eye infection which we are just getting over now after a week of being freaking sick. He's been off school all this week because of the eye infection, we went to the walk in clinic last Monday because his eye was oozing green goo and did not look healthy at all. The doctor gave him some antibiotic eye drops to clear it up, so far it's been working well and we've had only a couple of struggles in the beginning with getting them in. Now he will actually remind me that he needs to have them put in and lie really still while I do it. He goes back to school tomorrow and I'll be glad to have my time to myself again. :D

I've been busy crocheting and have finished Robbie's mittens and have started on a hat to match. The mittens are lined with fleece and the hat will be too. I'm going to make a scarf for him as well, but it might have to wait a little bit because my mom has requested a set for Christmas. We just have to get out to the clearance store to get some different coloured yarn for hers. I'll post some pictures soon, I just have to get the energy up to take them. :D

Day Two!

Hey all, it's day two of NaNoWriMo 2010!! So far I'm up to 1036 words on my novel and once I get a whole chapter finished I'll post it here for you guys to read and give me feed back. Right now I'm behind, but that's only because Robbie is sick and hasn't been at school yesterday or today. He should be back tomorrow and I'll have more time in the morning to write. So far I'm proud of what I've written, it's fantasy again, figured I'd go back to what I love, since when I did a fantasy novel the first year I got past the half way mark and I had 2 year old then.

Good luck to all my fellow NaNo's this year, I hope we can all get to 50,000 and beyond this month! :D
flowerchilde23: (Default)
BOO! We're having a pretty laid back day today to save our energy for Trick or Treating later on. I have to get some dishes done so that I can bake some ghost cakes for a treat, I bought these mini cake pans a few months ago to use at Halloween. :D I'll take some pictures later and post more pics of Robbie in his costume tomorrow.

Also, tomorrow is the start of NaNoWriMo!! This will be the third year participating and I'm hopeful that I will actually finish this year since Robbie is going to be at school in the mornings so I'll have time to write without interruptions. I have a vague idea of what I want to do, it's going to be fantasy probably with some dragons. There is an undeveloped story line that I've been hashing out with Eric so we'll see how it goes. Here's to 50,000 words in November and a completed novel for the first time. :D

BOO!!

Since today was the last day of school before Halloween they had a costume parade and let the kids dress up in their costumes. Of course I was up until 11pm last night finishing his hat for his costume. I had the car today (his cousins birthday party is tomorrow night and we need to drive and my mom is working downtown all weekend and doesn't need the car!) so I picked him up from school and went straight over to my moms house to pick up the paper work for a mystery shop I had to do. Once I had that done we headed to a different mall to go trick or treating. They do a special thing where the stores in the mall can hand out treats to the kids, it's in the afternoon when the older kids are at school so that the 5 and under set can get some treats without all the competition and walking around outside in the cold late at night. It was fun, he got a whole bags worth and really enjoyed himself. I've got a picture of him done by one of the photography stores, they were doing it for free but were accepting donations for a kids charity. I'll get my mom to scan that picture later, they had a really nice backdrop and used a really nice DSLR.

Any way, on to the costume pics. He decided that he wanted to be a bat instead of a pumpkin, which was fine by me since the costume only cost me $2.26 plus about 4 hours of sewing/cutting. :D

Photobucket
The whole thing, I got the mirco fleece in the clearance bin for $4/meter and only needed a half meter. I cut out the bat wing shape for the cape and sewed it onto the back of the sweater.

(I'll take closer pics later to show how I did everything, I'm just lazy right now. lol)

Photobucket
He loves this costume, I'm glad because it was a bit of a pain to do the hat.

Photobucket
Close up of the hat on his head. I sewed this by hand from a pattern that Eric and I drew up. It's quite simple and I'll scan the pattern piece we made in case anyone wants to make this costume.

Photobucket
Close up of the hat on the styrofoam head. I'm so in love with his bat hat and I think he'll probably wear it until it gets really cold here.

So that's it. I'll post a tutorial for the costume if anyone is interested. I've also been doing some crocheting, there's this closeout sale that happens in the same building a few times a year and they had these huge balls of yarn for $1.59 each. I ended up buying three, in yellow, orange and a dark red, you firefly fans will know what I'm planning on making. Unfortunately the red isn't the same gauge as the yellow and orange and it's not really the right colour anyway. I'm going to go back soon and see if I can find a smaller gauge and the right colour. For now I've been making little pumpkins which I will take pictures of soon as well. :D

OMG you guys! I know that only the browncoats on my f-list are going to get this one, but seriously this is way too cute for words.

Damn, now I need a Firefly/Serenity icon. Maybe I'll cut some of that pic and make a couple. :D

His first day went really well, he got the bus home with no problems and was waiting to get off the bus at the right stop! :D The teachers take turns riding the bus with them this week to make sure everything goes smoothly and then next week it will just be the bus driver. I got a note from his teacher, she was on the bus today and told me about it, saying that he has been having a good time and is making friends and talking a lot. He loves his teacher, Ms. Kwan, and she told me today that he's doing fine and fitting in well.

I took a few pictures of his first day and one of his first piece of art that is now hanging on our fridge. :D

My first three days of training are over and it's going really well. My trainer/supervisor and the people I've been working with are impressed with how quickly I've been picking everything up. It's mostly because of me having worked there before and just getting used to the changes in procedures and the volume of accounts. Everyone has been really nice and I'm really happy to be back. I was on the phones by myself yesterday and most people aren't allowed to do that until they have completed three weeks training. lol, I think I'm good at this job. :D

I'm working the next three days (it should have been only Wednesday and Thursday, but they wanted to give me an extra shift since I'll only have this week on my first pay) and then have the weekend off which will be nice. We're (Eric, Robbie, my mom and me) taking Robbie up to Wonderland for the day and with my mom there it means that Eric and I can go on some of the bigger rides and she can watch Robbie. YAY!! I'm going to try really hard to keep this job for a long time, I feel like I can get really far with this company and they were nice enough to let me come back after ten years so I want to at least work this job for a few years. The work is super easy, especially on the night shift once I start that, and I'll have tons of time to do my crocheting and cross stitch again. It will be nice because I've missed doing it, but I can't really get involved with it when Robbie is around.

I have to go out shopping today because I need some business casual clothes for work during the week since they changed their dress code. With the new offices they actually have meeting rooms and clients frequently come in for meetings and will be there when I'm finishing my shift in the morning so all the operators have to dress nicely during the week. Friday, Saturday and Sunday during the day are casual and jeans are allowed. I have no business casual pants so I'm heading out soon to at least buy one or two pairs of nice pants and once I start getting paid I can go buy a few more so I don't have to do laundry as often.

Whew, I'm exhausted!! Robbie's party went well, I think he had a good time and he was able to visit with his cousin Jack and [livejournal.com profile] cheerleader77's little boy so that was nice. He woke up this morning asking me if it was his birthday party now, he's been so excited all week for his party to happen. Eric and I got the living room furniture moved around a bit so that there was more room for the kids to play. We had Robbie's computer in front of our couch/futon so that he could lay on the futon and still watch movies and tv so we moved that over to the corner to clear the center of the living room.

My SIL made Robbie's cake, she took cake decorating classes at Micheal's and has started her own business so there was no one else I would have wanted to do his cake. She made him a Thomas cake, but ran into troubles when she went to find some cake toppers yesterday and couldn't find anything Thomas. Thankfully I had his cake topper from last years cake which was a little Thomas and was able to fine two more little engines to put on the cake. It looked so cute and once my mom sends me the pictures I'll post them. He got a ton of presents and is quite happy with all the toys and stuff he got. He's watching Toy Story right now which he got from [livejournal.com profile] cheerleader77 and is wearing one of the t-shirts my mom got him, one looks like Woody's shirt and the other looks like Buzz Lightyear's space suit. They are very cute.

My brother got him a Wii!!!!!! OMG, I was so excited when Eric told me last night and Robbie loves it. He's was playing the Wii Sports Resort that comes with it, he got really good at bowling and was so excited that it has sword fighting and archery. Two of his favorite things. :D

Tomorrow we head out to the Renn Fest, I'm super excited about that and will take tons of pictures.

So, I'm sitting here trying to relax and regain some of my strength. I spent most of yesterday going through Robbie's toys and putting most of them away in the bedroom so that there wouldn't be a huge mess after everyone left, it seemed to work quite well. Pictures to come soon, Robbie loved the fireworks and I got some great pictures of him and the fireworks.
